2026 World Heritage Festival Andong – Dosan Seowon
Dosan Seowon is imbued with the scholarship of Toegye Yi Hwang, a leading Confucian scholar of the Joseon Dynasty revered as "the Zhu Xi of the East." The 2026 World Heritage Festival sheds new light on Toegye's philosophy preserved at Dosan Seowon, along with his wisdom for living, including his special love of Hangeul and Hwarin Simbang, his regimen for mind-body health. In particular, the special performance "Dosan Sibigok, Sung Anew," staged on Hangeul Day, will convey the meaning of Hangeul with special resonance. Throughout the festival, visitors can view portraits and ceremonial portraits of Toegye painted by Korean and international artists across the ages in the academy courtyard, and, along with Toegye's love of Hangeul preserved at Dosan Seowon, glimpse the rich Hangeul culture handed down in the Andong region. Presented during night openings, the Sisadan-themed performance "The Light of Seonghak" and the media play "Dosando" offer a chance to experience the World Heritage site in an even more beautiful light.
