600 Years of Life in a Waterstones Village
Where the Nakdong River flows through the village. Since ancient times, it has been considered to be the name of the ‘softening incidental form’ where lotus flowers seem to float on the water. It is a representative clan village where Mr. Ryu of Pungsan has lived for generations, and it retains the life, architecture, and Confucian tradition that have been going on since the early Joseon Dynasty. In 2010, along with Gyeongju Yangdong Village, it was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "History Village of Korea: Hahoe and Yangdong". That the centuries-old mansion is not just an exhibit, but that the lives of its inhabitants continue today! That's why Hahoe Village is recognized as a traditional village that represents the whole world.

Legend has it that in 676, a paper-folded phoenix bowed in its seat. It is said that a costume ambassador was founded, the Bongjeong Temple. It harbors the oldest wooden structure in Korea, the Porakjeon (National Treasure No. 15), and is still a living Sansa practiced by monks. In 2018, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with seven Sansasas in Korea.

The man whose last words were a plum blossom, Emperor Toegye. The place where the best psychologist in Joseon, Emperor Toegye, raised his pupils. Dosan Seowon was an educational institution and a space where we thought about nature as a friend. In 2019, it was listed by UNESCO as a “Korean Seowon” with Byungsan Seowon.

The Byeongsan Seowon was sitting on a cliff overlooking the Nakdong River, facing the open Byeongsan Mountain. Built in honour of the middle Joseon Dynasty university student Seo Ae Ryu Seong Ryong, it is characterized by the embrace of pristine nature in its architecture without a single ornate decoration. Along with Dosan Seowon, it was listed as UNESCO's “Seowon in Korea” in 2019.

On the occasion of the World Heritage Festival, we will make Andong a new and future World Heritage Site.
On an autumn night, fire drifts over the Nakdong River, and the refined pastimes (pungnyu) of villages four centuries ago come alive again.
In October, Andong itself becomes a stage.
Four UNESCO World Heritage Sites — Hahoe Village, Bongjeongsa Temple, Dosan Seowon and Byeongsan Seowon — become a living, breathing space of stories for 17 days.
The opening ceremony proclaims Andong a 'Hub of Asian Cultural Values.'
The closing ceremony will declare a vision for building shared Asian values.
A festival of history and culture linking East Asia and Central Asia: Andong meets Samarkand.

World Heritage Exhibition 2026 Opening Ceremony <Inspiring World Heritage, Creative Andong Culture> On the evening of Saturday, 10 October 2026, the curtain will rise on the 2026 World Heritage Festival in Andong at the white sand beach of Buyongdae, Mansongjeong, Hahoe Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Andong, where a thousand years of history and the most Korean spirit are breathing, Recalling the values and significance of the World Heritage Site, Together, we will open the future of our precious heritage. Hahoe Village, Dosan Seowon, Byeongsan Seowon, Bongjeongsa In Andong's four World Heritage Sites You are warmly invited to the 17-day festival.
